School for the Dead - The Chain CD

School for the Dead - The Chain Cd | Official Site | Myspace

Its marketing purpose(s) aside, the "Chain CD EP" marks the aesthetic transition from Henning Ohlenbusch as solo artiste to leader and singer/songwriter of the band School For The Dead.

Each song on the effort sits in its own corner of the magnificent palace that is the Ohlenbusch canon.

Strummy opener "Uncomfortable" finds our man Hen in a wistful mood as the band majestically propels the harmony-laden tune along. Chirpy "Everybody Loves Martha" follows- this '80s-TV-show-theme-esque ditty doesn't skimp on the tasty harpsichord either.

Saturated with rumbling bass/drums and distorted guitars guaranteed to wobble your woofers, the monstrous "Omnivore" is as heavy as this band ever gets; yet, perched atop the sonic morass are melodic antlers that'll hook ya. Watch out! Finally, WRSI radio fave "One Lady Dancing" is a smash-car-derby of polka accordion, skaupbeat, and free jazz sax squonk all supporting a lyric that'll riddle your chest with chuckles galore. G'head, listen. G'wan.
