Goldwater
I'm a pessimist because of intelligence, but an optimist because of will.
At the end of this century's
first decade, when the productivity of the lasting Northampton band the
Figments became threatened by the broad geography of these divided states,
front man Thane Thomsen decided a new project was in order. Enter Goldwater.
They have been called a super group, but they are really just good friends
with some serious musical connections. A list of some of the bands these
guys have been in would include the Figments, Lo Fine, Ware River Club,
Drunk Stuntmen, Sitting Next to Brian, School For The Dead, Rehab Massachusetts,
the Fawns, Aloha Steamtrain, and Haunt.
In 2010 they recorded the 7 song EP I'm a pessimist because of intelligence,
but an optimist because of will. It is a record of strong statements, evincing
an original indie approach that incorporates elements drawn from all of
rock's dark history. On this EP Goldwater covers more shadowy terrain than
7 songs would seem to allow.
