School for the Dead - The New You
As laconic
as he is lanky, School For The Dead bandleader Henning Ohlenbusch is a composer
of bright, poppy songs that range within lines from witty to wistful. Ohlenbusch
has wisely chosen to enlist a stable of stellar musicians to deliver his
tunes with vigor and verve and the accomplished quintet grooves to his muse,
fleshing out the songs with charm and American beauty.
The New you is a singalongfest of an album. Melodies that are catchier
than malaria and/or Brooks Robinson in the early 70s, more hooks than
you could find in NESN's Charlie "The Codfather" Moore's tacklebox
and /or a videotaped viewing of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar circa 1978 with the
fast-forward button firmly depressed.
Emo? No. Poppy? Copy. Nice work.
